Orthopedic Physical Therapy

Meet Dr. Lance:

Dr. Lance Whorton, DMIN, MSPT, MTC, CMTPT/DN

Lance specializes in finding what other providers miss. His passion is helping patients not only alleviate their pain, but achieve long term results. While he treats all orthopedic injuries, his specialty is head, neck, and TMJ pain. Lance uses his advanced certifications in both Manual Therapy and Dry Needling to provide pain relief in a unique fashion that often provides quicker relief than more traditional therapies. In 2000, Lance finished his master's thesis on the treatment of cervicogenic headaches with manual therapy, published in the peer reviewed, internationally recognized Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy. His Doctor of Ministry, from Eastern Christian University, combines spiritual and physical practices to engage the vagus nerve and decrease pain. He writes about this approach in his books Clenched, a physical and spiritual guide to relieving TMJ pain, and Calm in the Chaos, a 21 day devotional for engaging the vagus nerve and calming pain.

Head and Neck Pain

A typical session starts with a full evaluation to find the actual source of your pain, not just where it hurts. From there, treatment usually combines manual therapy, dry needling when indicated, and a targeted exercise plan built around your specific issue. This combination helps decrease pain, restore normal joint function, and get you back to enjoying life.

TMJ Pain

While a physician is concerned with making sure your bite is correct, your physical therapist will work with you on the following aspects of your care:

1. Correcting your oral mechanics

2. Establishing an unclenched

position of the jaw at rest

3. Helping you obtain the best head and neck alignment
